Pieter holds B.Sc., B.Sc.(Hons), M.Sc. degrees in chemistry and an LLB degree. He is a qualified attorney and patent attorney. He moved from Adams & Adams to join Hahn & Hahn Inc in 2001. Pieter deals with all aspects of intellectual property law and is involved in patent litigation, the drafting and prosecution of local and foreign patent applications. Pieter also handles commercial aspects regarding intellectual property such as licensing agreements and is a past president of the South African Chapter of The Licensing Executives Society.

Youngmi graduated with a B.Sc (Biology) and an M.Sc (Microbiology) in the Republic of Korea. Later, Youngmi qualified as a Korean patent attorney and practised for 13 years at three of the largest patent and law offices in Korea before moving to Hahn & Hahn Inc in South Africa in 1999. Youngmi has extensive international patent litigation experience in the chemical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology fields, and also specialises in the filing and prosecution of patent applications worldwide. Youngmi also represents multinational companies for trademark enforcement in various African countries including Senegal, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Mali, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Tanzania, Kenya, Zambia, Namibia and Botswana.

Roland holds a P.hD in Physics from the University of Heidelberg and an LLB from the University of South Africa and is a German and European Patent and Trademark Attorney. Roland has been working for over 15 years in the field of intellectual property in, among others in the fields of electronics, telecommunication, satellite communication and signal processing for military applications. Roland did his thesis in the field of pattern processing with VLSI processors and later his doctorate in the field of particle physics in the context of experiments at the European Nuclear Research Centre CERN. Roland is the author or co-author of about 60 scientific publications.

Dr Madelein Kleyn is a commercial and intellectual property legal executive with international experience advising businesses in complex, multinational environments. She helps leadership teams translate legal, regulatory and IP risk into practical strategy that support growth, protect innovation and strengthen compliance.

Known for clear, persuasive communication and calm execution under pressure, Madelein works effectively across technical, commercial and operational teams to deliver solutions-focused outcomes. Her practice is grounded in a collaborative, high-performance approach, with particular strength in aligning legal advice with broader business objectives.

Madelein is passionate about education, capability-building and the effective implementation of strategy. She brings a holistic perspective to intellectual property, technology transfer, commercial decision-making, governance and regulatory matters, making her a trusted advisor to clients seeking practical, business-oriented counsel on protecting, commercialising and leveraging innovation.

At Hahn & Hahn, she serves as an expert IP consultant, supporting clients with strategic, commercially focused advice on intellectual property, technology transfer, and the protection, management and commercial exploitation of intellectual property assets.

She holds a PhD in Private Law from the University of Cape Town, an LLM (Tax) from the University of Johannesburg, an LLB and B Proc from the University of South Africa, and a BSc in Chemical Engineering from North-West University. She is a registered South African Patent Attorney, an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa, a Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP), and a member of SAIIPL, INTA, IAPP, CCASA and the Licensing Executives Society (LES).
